DairySA collaborates with a number of service providers to provide the following opportunities for the local community.
Forage Crop Pilot Discussion Group River & Lakes
Forage Crops Planning & On-Farm Foundations (Farm Walk)
This first discussion group in the Forage Crops series will focus on the critical planning decisions that underpin successful forage crop systems. The session will explore how soils, paddock conditions and feedbase planning influence crop choice, timing and performance, supporting shared learning and discussion around decisions made before sowing. Key topics will include soil structure and moisture, crop rotations and sequencing, and how forage crops fit within a whole-farm feedbase.
The discussion group will include an on-farm walk, providing a practical opportunity to observe paddock characteristics, share experiences, and talk through planning considerations in real time. This session is designed to set the foundation for future discussion groups in the series, which will build on these principles to cover establishment, management, harvesting and utilisation of forage crops.
Who should attend?
Dairy owner/operators and farm decision-makers, including partners who are involved in feedbase and cropping decisions.
Can Children come along?
It is certainly suitable for small children to come along. We will be indoors for most of the session and then appropriate considerations will need to be taken for the paddock walk.
Can my agronomist come?
The information you go over in this session will definitely be something you will discuss with your agronomist or consultant for planning purposes. That is why we will have an early breakfast session with the Agos so that we are all on the same page.
